Russian Media: State visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Georgia opens a new era of strategic partnership between the two countries

MOSCOW, July 6. /Dunyo IA/. Russian socio-political publications “Nezavisimaya Gazeta” and “Vzglyad” paid special attention to the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Georgia, noting its significant importance for the further development of Uzbek-Georgian cooperation, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
“Nezavisimaya Gazeta” published an article titled “300 Uzbek Businessmen at the Gates of Tbilisi”, which underscores that the official visit of the Head of our State marked a pivotal milestone in strengthening bilateral relations after an extended hiatus.
Newspaper notes that the talks between the President of Uzbekistan, President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili, and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze centered on developing political dialogue, expanding interparliamentary and interregional ties, and cooperation in the fields of trade, industry, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, tourism, energy and information technology.
According to the newspaper's assessment, particular attention was paid to the development of transport and logistics cooperation and the expansion of Uzbekistan's export opportunities. It is noted that the republic is consistently strengthening its positions along the Middle Corridor, which connects Central Asia with European markets via the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye.
Publication also reports that the visit was preceded by the Uzbek-Georgian Business Forum involving about 300 representatives of the business communities of the two countries. Following its outcomes, the parties confirmed their intention to increase mutual trade turnover to 1 billion dollars.
According to the publication, utilization of the Georgian transport infrastructure will allow Uzbekistan to expand its export of finished goods, including textiles, food products, and pharmaceuticals, to the markets of Türkiye and Europe.
In turn, the Russian online socio-political publication “Vzglyad”, in its articles titled “Georgia and Uzbekistan become strategic partners” and “Georgia announces elevation of relations with Uzbekistan to a strategic level”, emphasizes that the main political outcome of the visit was the signing of the Memorandum on Establishing a Strategic Partnership between the two countries by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze.
Publication emphasizes that the sides confirmed their intention to increase the volume of mutual trade turnover from the current 270 million dollars to 1 billion dollars in the coming years.
“Vzglyad” also cites the statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Maka Botchorishvili, who called the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan a historic event and stressed that the agreements reached open up an opportunity to bring bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level of strategic cooperation.
Russian media broadly concur that the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Georgia marked a significant step forward in further strengthening political dialogue, expanding trade, economic and investment interaction, as well as developing transport and logistics ties between the two nations.
