Uzbekistan and Pakistan set an ambitious goal to increase bilateral trade to $2 billion

ISLAMABAD, February 25. /Dunyo IA/. Leading Pakistani news outlets, including the “Associated Press of Pakistan”, as well as the newspapers “The Nation”, “Daily Ittehat” and “Daily Financial Times”, have published coverage highlighting the trade and economic partnership between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The articles highlight that Uzbekistan and Pakistan have set an ambitious goal to increase bilateral trade to USD 2 billion and have signed 28 agreements aimed at deepening economic cooperation and accelerating regional integration. This milestone is described as a significant step in the development of bilateral relations.
It is reported that on February 5–6, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev made a historic state visit to Islamabad, during which he held productive talks with President and Prime Minister of Pakistan.
The leaders of both countries signed a Joint Declaration reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors. The signed agreements and memoranda cover a broad range of areas, including foreign policy, preferential trade, defense, climate change, agriculture, food security, information technology, science, education, culture, maritime cooperation, pharmaceuticals, textiles, mining, geosciences, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, sports and drug control.
Particular attention was given to the Memorandum of Understanding on Maritime Cooperation, which envisages preferential arrangements at the ports of Karachi, Gwadar and Port Qasim, ensuring improved access to key maritime routes.
According to Pakistani media, discussions also focused on energy and environmental protection. The two sides agreed to cooperate on ecological initiatives, climate adaptation, and disaster risk reduction, reflecting a shared commitment to sustainable development.
During a business forum co-chaired by the two countries’ leaders, a portfolio of projects worth USD 3.5 billion was presented. Additionally, the Uzbekistan - Pakistan Business Council was established to institutionalize private-sector collaboration.
The coverage concludes by noting that industrial cooperation between Uzbekistan and Pakistan continues to expand, including exchanges in digital technologies and artificial intelligence, while engagement in traditional sectors such as textiles and pharmaceuticals is being steadily developed.
