MADRID, February 18. /Dunyo IA/. A meeting was held at the headquarters of UN Tourism in the Spanish capital between the newly appointed Secretary-General, Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais and ambassadors from the European region, including representatives of Central Asian countries, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Secretary-General Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais outlined her vision and priorities for engagement in the European region, underscoring the importance of advancing sustainable and inclusive tourism, accelerating the digital transformation of the sector and strengthening international cooperation in tourism.

In a brief exchange with the Ambassador of Uzbekistan and Permanent Representative to UN Tourism, Farrukh Tursunov, the sides reviewed the current state of bilateral cooperation and discussed plans to intensify collaboration. Particular focus was placed on promoting Uzbekistan’s tourism potential and attracting investment into the sector.

The Secretary-General highly commended Uzbekistan’s achievements in tourism development, noting that these successes reflect the country’s consistent and forward-looking policies, which are opening new opportunities for Uzbekistan on the international stage.

Special attention was given to the Silk Road Regional Office in Samarkand. It was emphasised that the office is expected to serve as an important international platform for the exchange of expertise, research initiatives, educational and cultural projects, as well as for promoting Uzbekistan’s rich historical and tourism heritage.

At the conclusion of the meeting, an agreement was reached to organise an official visit by the Secretary-General of UN Tourism to Uzbekistan in the near future. “Uzbekistan is a wonderful country. I have long dreamed of visiting it and hope that this dream will soon come true”, - Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais stated.
