BERLIN, May 12. /Dunyo IA/. Commemorative events dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Honor and the 81st anniversary of the Victory over fascism in World War II were held in Germany, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The ceremonies were attended by the Ambassador of Uzbekistan Dilshod Akhatov, members of the diplomatic corps, the public and compatriots living in the country.

Wreaths were laid at the memorial complexes in Treptow Park and Tiergarten in Berlin, and a moment of silence was observed to honour the fallen at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. During the event, a prayer was offered in memory of the victims of the war.

The ceremony participants emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory, preventing the recurrence of war tragedies, and educating the younger generation in the spirit of peace, humanism, and respect for the heroic deeds of veterans.

It was noted that Uzbekistan made a significant contribution to the Victory over fascism, both on the front lines and on the home front. During the war years, approximately 2 million people were mobilized from the republic, with more than 500,000 of them losing their lives on the battlefields.

Furthermore, Uzbekistan became one of the largest evacuation centers, taking in over 1.5 million evacuated citizens, including women, children, and the elderly.
