WASHINGTON-TEHRAN, August 20. /Dunyo IA/. U.S. President Donald Trump said countries that provide financial or other support to Iran will face “tremendous economic consequences,” reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing Reuters.

The president also announced plans for launching “the most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country” but did not specify what measures would be imposed. Financial institutions, companies, airports and government entities in countries that, in his words, provide Iran with “any type of lifeline” could face consequences.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called the statements a continuation of Washington’s “failed policies.” According to him, increased pressure will lead to further U.S. failures, while sanctions and military pressure will not force Iran to change course.

It is worth noting that Donald Trump had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of support for the United States from NATO countries and several Asian states in the conflict with Iran. He called on them to participate in ensuring the security of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, noting that the United States should not bear the related military and economic costs alone.

Against the backdrop of Washington’s statements, the UAE announced the suspension of trade operations, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran until further notice. The decision followed a report by the country’s authorities that two missiles launched from Iran had been detected, although Tehran called the information unfounded.

Meanwhile, contradictory signals continue to emerge over possible negotiations. Donald Trump previously said there were no contacts with Iran, while his special envoy Jared Kushner said talks were continuing and had become more active. The two sides had previously announced ceasefires twice, but the agreements quickly collapsed.
