NEW YORK, September 18. /Dunyo IA/. The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the participation of the State of Palestine in the work of its 81st session, with 152 countries voting in favour, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing the UN News.

Three countries voted against the resolution, while four abstained. The United States voted against the document.

U.S. Permanent Representative to the UN Tammy Bruce said Washington’s position under President Donald Trump remained unchanged, accusing the Palestinian Authority and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) of failing to meet their obligations under the Oslo Accords.

She said the United States would demand that the Palestinian Authority and the PLO condemn terrorism and reject any support for or justification of it. She also called for an end to payments that Washington associates with support for terrorists and their families, as well as an end to the “glorification of violence.”

China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Sun Lei called on the United States, as the host country, to comply with its international legal obligations, ensure equal treatment of all sovereign states and allow the events of the High-Level Week of the 81^st General Assembly session to proceed without hindrance.

Permanent Representative of Palestine to the UN Riyad Mansour said the Palestinian leadership rejected actions aimed at denying the Palestinian delegation, headed by President Mahmoud Abbas, the right to participate in the work of the UN and the General Assembly’s High-Level Week.

The vote came after the United States, where the UN headquarters is located, revoked the visas of Palestinian officials ahead of the 81^st session.

International security, armed conflicts, climate change, pandemic preparedness, sea-level rise, the fight against racism and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals will be among the key issues during the High-Level Week.

The General Debate will begin on September 22 with representatives of all 193 UN member states. The session will also include meetings on climate action, pandemic prevention, the right to development, combating racism and the complete elimination of nuclear weapons.

The 81^st session will be the final one for António Guterres as UN Secretary-General. His second and final term ends on December 31, 2026, after which the new Secretary-General will take office on January 1, 2027.
