Gilberto Ayala: “Turon” Martial Art can become another link connecting Uzbekistan and the countries of the Americas

NEW YORK, October 7. /Dunyo IA/.  Venezuelan athlete and representative of the international martial arts community Gilberto Ayala has highly praised the policy pursued under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to develop sport in Uzbekistan, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

In his article devoted to the sports transformations taking place in Uzbekistan, Gilberto Ayala notes that the head of state’s particular attention to this area is already producing tangible results.

“President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is paying great attention to sport”, the author emphasizes.

In his assessment, in recent years Uzbekistan has significantly expanded opportunities for mass and youth sport, developed modern sports infrastructure, and set ambitious goals for its national teams at major international competitions.

This assessment is particularly relevant against the backdrop of Uzbekistan’s recent successes on the international sporting arena. According to Gilberto Ayala, results achieved demonstrate the effectiveness of consistent state support for sport and provide a foundation for new achievements, including in the run-up to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

At the same time, international interest in Uzbekistan’s national sports is also growing. Gilberto Ayala identifies the Uzbek martial art of “Turon” as one such discipline. Today, it is developing in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Uruguay, while contacts with representatives of the sporting community in other regions of the world are also expanding.

New York has become one of the platforms for the international promotion of “Turon”, where in 2025, our compatriot Farrukh Niyazimbetov, with the assistance of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan, established the International “Turon” Federation. In a relatively short period, the Federation has established ties with sports organizations in North and South America, Europe and Asia.

Gilberto Ayala considers the formation of a Pan-American “Turon” system and the organization of a championship involving athletes from countries across the region to be the next promising stage.

At the same time, Venezuelan athlete particularly emphasizes the importance of preserving the martial art’s national identity as its international reach expands.

“Uzbekistan will always occupy a special place as the homeland of modern “Turon”. Its history, culture and knowledge provide the roots”, Gilberto Ayala writes.

In his assessment, from Tashkent to Caracas, from New York to Mexico City, from La Paz to Lima, Santiago and Montevideo, “Turon” can become another link connecting Uzbekistan and the countries of the Americas, introducing international audiences to the history, culture and traditions of our country.
