Eldor Shomurodov’s Strike named Second-Best Goal in FIFA Poll

• 140TASHKENT, July 28. /Dunyo IA/. Goal scored by Uzbekistan national team captain Eldor Shomurodov against DR Congo at the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been voted the second-best goal in the “Goal of the Tournament” poll, according to FIFA, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Eldor Shomurodov scored his goal in the 10th minute of Uzbekistan’s Group Stage match against DR Congo, lifting the ball over the goalkeeper and finding the back of the net. Strike was recognised by fans and football experts as one of the best goals of the tournament in a FIFA-organised poll.
Notably, the goal scored by Uzbekistan national team forward Eldor Shomurodov was named the best goal of the Group Stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Fans selected the strike scored by Cabo Verde defender Sidny Lopes Cabral against Argentina in the Round of 32 as the winner of the Goal of the Tournament vote. According to Sidny Cabral, his mother Teresa fainted from excitement as he ran towards the stands to celebrate the goal.
“Before the match, I told my mother that if I scored, I would run towards her. When I reached her, I saw that she was crying, but she did not even realise that I had come up to her. People around her were trying to bring her back to consciousness because she had fainted when I scored the goal”, Cabral said.
In the FIFA poll, Eldor Shomurodov’s goal finished second, while the goal scored by Haitian national team player Wilson Isidore was voted third.
Goals scored by star players such as Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Erling Haaland, Julián Álvarez, Jude Bellingham and Ferran Torres were also among the nominees for the Goal of the Tournament award.
