BUDAPEST, August 3. /Dunyo IA/. Hungarian online publication “Hello Magyar” has published an analytical article titled “The G20 and Uzbekistan: Investment, Industry and Trade in the New Economic Reality”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent
Publication examines the alignment between Uzbekistan’s national development strategy and the priorities of the Group of Twenty (G20), including sustainable development, industrialization, energy transition, trade expansion and digital transformation.
Publication notes that at the recently held Fifth Tashkent International Investment Forum, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated that the country’s economy grew by 7.7 percent in 2025, foreign investment inflows reached $43 billion and GDP is expected to exceed the one-billion-dollar threshold in 2026. The article emphasizes that the establishment of the Tashkent International Financial Centre, incorporating elements of English common law and an independent commercial court, plays an important role in further strengthening Uzbekistan’s investment climate.
In the industrial sector, the author highlights the objective of increasing value added from $36.5 billion to at least $60 billion, as well as launching 782 new projects worth $52 billion in 2026. The article separately emphasizes the potential of critical minerals, provided that a complete domestic processing value chain is established rather than merely exporting raw materials.
According to the article, Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover reached $32.8 billion in January–May 2026, while exports excluding gold increased by 29.4 percent. At the same time, the country’s key trading partners remain G20 member states, including China, Russia, Türkiye, France, Republic of Korea and Germany.
Publication also notes that Uzbekistan’s accession process to the World Trade Organization (WTO) is approaching its final stage, and that during the meeting between the President of Uzbekistan and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in June 2026, the American side officially expressed its support for Uzbekistan’s accession.
The author concludes that the areas discussed within the G20 framework - capital, industry, trade connectivity and partnerships - largely correspond to the reforms already being implemented in Uzbekistan, while Central Asia is gradually emerging as a connecting link between major global markets.
