Leading Indian Newspaper highlights Uzbekistan’s trade, economic and investment potential

KOLKATA, March 12. /Dunyo IA/. The leading Indian publication “The Statesman” has published an article highlighting the growing opportunities for trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and India, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The article, titled “Uzbekistan poised to become gateway to Russia, CIS, Europe for Indian businesses”, outlines the outcomes of a meeting between Sardor Rustambaev and representatives of the business community from West Bengal.
Publication notes that bilateral trade between Uzbekistan and India is entering a pivotal phase. Indian companies export pharmaceutical products, machinery, automotive components and optical equipment to Uzbekistan, while Uzbekistan supplies fertilizers, fruits, vegetables, as well as a range of industrial and agricultural goods to the Indian market.
The newspaper also provides a detailed overview of the investment opportunities that Uzbekistan offers to Indian businesses. According to the article, Sardor Rustambaev emphasized that the country provides foreign investors with land plots, tax incentives and access to modern infrastructure within special industrial zones. Sectors such as pharmaceuticals, information technology, electronics and green energy are of particular interest to Indian companies.
The publication notes that Uzbekistan is actively positioning itself as a regional production and investment hub, offering access to the markets of the Commonwealth of Independent States, with a combined population of around 300 million people.
At present, more than 300 enterprises with Indian capital are successfully operating in Uzbekistan, author reports.
The article also highlights new promising areas of cooperation, including renewable energy, digital technologies, rare-earth metals, the textile industry and tourism. According to the publication, Uzbekistan’s ongoing economic reforms, combined with India’s strengths in technology and services, create a natural complementarity between the two economies.
The newspaper concludes that economic relations between India and Uzbekistan - two civilizations historically connected through the ancient Silk Road - are dynamically entering a new phase, opening new opportunities for deeper ties, market diversification and the development of sustainable partnerships.
