“La Nation”: Samarkand strengthens its role as a global platform for dialogue on children’s rights

GENEVA, October 28. /Dunyo IA/. “La Nation”, a French-language publication in Switzerland, has published an article by Catherine Fiankan-Bokonga, a senior correspondent accredited to the United Nations Office at Geneva, entitled “Child Well-being: Uzbekistan Hosts a World Summit”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Article reviews the outcomes of the World Summit on Child Well-being, held in Samarkand on October 21–22nd with the support of UNICEF, World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations. Event brought together more than 600 delegates from over 100 countries, including representatives of international organizations and 15 first ladies.

Particular attention is given to Uzbekistan’s social reforms, notably the reduction in child poverty from 21.5 percent in 2021 to 5.4 percent in 2026. The article highlights the international recognition of First Lady Ziroat Mirziyoyeva, who received the WHO Director-General’s Global Award for her contribution to child health, including the health of children with cancer. It also mentions initiatives supported by the “Zamin” Foundation and “Mehrli Maktab” educational program.

According to the publication, Samarkand is increasingly establishing itself as a platform for international dialogue. The adoption of the Samarkand Declaration is identified as the summit’s principal outcome. The declaration calls for increased investment in healthcare, inclusive education and social protection for children. The article emphasizes the importance of translating the agreements reached into practical action and ensuring long-term funding for national programs.
