YEREVAN, August 21. /Dunyo IA/. Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be renamed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing Yerevan Today.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the change at a government meeting, noting that the new name reflects the need to place greater emphasis on international economic relations. According to him, a significant part of the ministry’s work in recent decades has focused on conflict-related issues.
“75 to 80 percent of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ activities, if I am not exaggerating, were related to the conflict or to actions and activities arising from the conflict agenda,” the prime minister said.
The renaming comes amid government plans to expand economic and regional cooperation.
Under the government’s 2026–2031 program, Armenia plans to continue normalizing relations with Azerbaijan and Türkiye. Regarding Baku, Yerevan intends to complete border delimitation, sign a peace treaty and expand contacts between the business and civil society communities of the two countries.
With Türkiye, the government plans to establish diplomatic relations and open the land border, including by launching at least two modern border crossing points. The program also envisages developing transport, energy and digital infrastructure between the two countries.
According to the program, Armenia’s foreign policy will continue to follow a “balanced and balancing” approach. Key priorities include relations with Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Georgia and Iran.
