LONDON, March 5. /Dunyo IA/. The British Broadcasting Corporation - BBC has released a documentary on snow leopards residing in the Hissar State Nature Reserve of Kashkadarya, located in Uzbekistan, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The feature focuses on the study and conservation of the snow leopard - one of the rarest and most elusive predators on the planet. The film crew was among the first international teams to gain access to the remote areas of the Hissar Range, located within our country's specially protected natural territories.
Working alongside Uzbek scientists and reserve rangers, they spent several days in high-altitude conditions, setting up camera traps, tracking footprints, and collecting biological samples. Despite the harsh climate, rugged terrain and extremely low temperatures, the team successfully captured rare footage of the snow leopard, confirming its stable presence in the region.
The film pays special attention to the Hissar ecosystem, which remains in a nearly pristine state. Covering an area of over 800 square kilometres, the reserve serves as a vital sanctuary for more than 270 animal species and over 1.2 thousand plant species. The snow leopard population there is gradually increasing, currently reaching approximately 60 individuals.
The documentary does more than just showcase unique footage of the “ghost of the mountains”, it also raises critical questions about the interaction between humans and wildlife. The creators emphasize the necessity of working with local communities and strengthening transboundary cooperation in nature conservation.
It is specifically highlighted that the successful protection of rare species is only possible through the combined efforts of scientists, the state and society. Thus, the conservation of the snow leopard becomes a symbol of preserving the fragile mountain ecosystems of Central Asia.
