BERLIN, February 1. /Dunyo IA/. The German publication “S-Bahn Hamburg” reports that Uzbekistan is hosting major international sports events and strengthening its regional role, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
It is noted that the gatherings in Tashkent brought together more than 360 representatives from global sports federations. The events included meetings of the Executive Committee of the World Aquatics Federation, the 46th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia, and an international forum of the World Anti-Doping Agency.
The Olympic Council of Asia’s General Assembly concluded with the unanimous election of Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, as the new president of the council.
Uzbekistan’s domestic sports achievements were also highlighted. Around 15 million citizens are actively engaged in sports, and initiatives like the “Presidential Olympics” talent identification system, construction of the Olympic Village, and strong performances at the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games (13th place) and Asian Youth and Paralympic Games demonstrate the nation’s commitment to athletic development.
The country has successfully hosted world championships and World Cup stages in over ten disciplines, including boxing, judo, gymnastics, weightlifting, volleyball, and futsal. More than 20 cooperation agreements were signed between international sports organizations and Uzbek federations, supporting new projects such as a weightlifting center, a regional wrestling academy, expanded volleyball clubs, and new hockey arenas.
“The recent events in Tashkent reinforced Uzbekistan’s status as a regional sports hub, open to international collaboration and meeting global standards in event organization and sports infrastructure”, - states “S-Bahn Hamburg”.
