BANGKOK, July 13. /Dunyo IA/. At least 27 people were killed and 63 injured in a major fire at the “Na Ladprao” beer pub in Bangkok, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing the “Bangkok Post” newspaper.
The fire broke out late on July 12 in the northern part of the Thai capital. Firefighters said the blaze was brought under control within about half an hour.
Prime Minister of Thailand Anutin Charnvirakul said at least 27 people had died. According to witnesses, smoke appeared near the stage before the fire, followed by an explosion, after which the venue quickly filled with thick smoke.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said 63 people were taken to hospitals, with 22 in critical condition. Authorities are continuing to identify the victims, as many did not have identification documents or were found unconscious.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Preliminary findings suggest it may have been caused by an electrical short circuit. Investigators are also examining the ceiling materials and whether blocked emergency exits may have made evacuation more difficult.
The building has been sealed off, and forensic teams are inspecting the burned remains of the venue.
One Lao citizen has so far been confirmed among the victims. The identities and nationalities of the other victims are still being established.
The fire has renewed concerns over safety standards at entertainment venues in Thailand. In 2022, 14 people were killed in a fire at a music bar in the eastern part of the country. In 2009, a fire at the “Santika” nightclub in Bangkok killed 66 people and injured more than 200 others.
