Uzbekistan and Belgium Senates to develop “roadmap” for bilateral cooperation

BRUSSELS, April 30. /Dunyo IA/. An online meeting was held between representatives of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and the Senate of Belgium, Dunyo IA correspondent.
The dialogue marked an important step toward developing parliamentary diplomacy, enriching Uzbekistan-Belgium relations with new substance, and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation based on trust.
On the Belgian side, the event was attended by Stephanie D'Hose, Chair of the Belgian Senate's Friendship Group for Cooperation with Central Asian Countries and former President of the Senate. The Uzbek side was represented by Odiljon Mamatkarimov, Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Ties, Foreign Investment and Tourism.
The parties emphasized the increasing role of parliamentary diplomacy in modern international relations, noting it as an effective tool for promoting bilateral cooperation. Specifically, the talks addressed issues of institutional strengthening of interaction between legislative bodies, revitalizing the activities of friendship groups and providing parliamentary support for trade, economic, scientific and interregional ties.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to develop a “roadmap” aimed at further expanding practical cooperation between the friendship groups, as well as organizing a visit of a Belgian parliamentary delegation to Uzbekistan by the end of this year.
As noted, the reached agreements will serve to elevate the inter-parliamentary dialogue between Uzbekistan and Belgium to a qualitatively new level and further develop comprehensive bilateral cooperation.
