Uzbek diaspora establishes official football club in Sweden

STOCKHOLM, April 22. /Dunyo IA/. A football team named “Nordic Uzbek F.C.” has been established in Stockholm on the initiative of a group of Uzbek nationals residing in Sweden, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

It is noted that the team is the first officially registered Uzbek football club not only in Sweden but also across Europe.

“The first-ever participation of Uzbekistan’s national team in the World Cup greatly inspired us. We realized even more deeply how important it is to promote our country abroad through sport. The Embassy of Uzbekistan directly supported this initiative”, - said Umid Togaev, one of the founders and sponsors of the team, an entrepreneur based in Sweden.

In April this year, “Nordic Uzbek F.C.” was officially registered to participate in the initial stage of the Swedish football league, the eighth division.

“In a few days, on May 3, we will play our first official match. Our goal is to become one of the leading teams in Stockholm”, - added Habibullo Khodjaev, one of the club’s leaders.

The team is viewed as a unique initiative aimed at uniting compatriots in Sweden. According to the club’s leadership and embassy representatives, it also aims to establish close cooperation with the Football Association of Uzbekistan.
