Pakistani Media: Uzbekistan enters a new stage of economic development

ISLAMABAD, October 4. /Dunyo IA/.    An analytical article by Khalid Taimur Akram, Executive Director, Pakistan Research Center for a Community with Shared Future (PRCCSF), Islamabad and laureate of the “Oltin Qalam” (Golden Pen) National Award, titled “New Infrastructure Push in Uzbekistan: Building the Foundation of Regional Economic Power”, has been published in the prominent Pakistani newspaper “Daily Ittehad”, as well as in “TNS.World” and “Daily Big Digit”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Article notes at the outset that Uzbekistan is entering a new important stage of its economic development. Country is making significant investments in roads, electricity networks, railway infrastructure, renewable energy sources, water supply systems and urban infrastructure.

It is emphasized that the significance of these projects extends beyond the development of physical infrastructure: they are laying the necessary foundations for further expanding trade, attracting investment, developing industry and strengthening regional connectivity.

According to the Pakistani expert, scale of these efforts is also reflected in the country’s investment indicators. According to data from the National Statistics Committee, investment in fixed assets amounted to 591.1 trillion soums in 2025, increasing by 10.5 percent compared with 2024. Of this amount, $33.5 billion accounted for foreign investment and loans.

“These investments are being made against the backdrop of high economic growth rates. According to the World Bank, Uzbekistan’s real gross domestic product grew by 7.7 percent in 2025, compared with 6.7 percent in 2024. This combination of economic growth and investment in infrastructure is important, as modern infrastructure enables businesses to transport goods efficiently, access reliable sources of energy and reach domestic and international markets”, Taimur Akram writes.

Article identifies the development of transport infrastructure as one of the key areas of the transformation process. It notes that the government has announced a five-year program for the development of the domestic railway network. Under the program, starting from 2026, an additional 500 kilometers of railway are planned to be constructed, high-speed rail services are to be launched and major railway stations are to be modernized.

In conclusion, the article emphasizes that Uzbekistan’s geographical location objectively determines its important role in connecting Central Asia with international markets. By improving its infrastructure, the country is laying a solid foundation for the development of trade, attracting investment, and industrial growth. As a result, Uzbekistan is becoming not only more closely connected within the country, but also increasingly integrated into the regional and global economy.
