Compatriots Abroad Unite in Support of Uzbekistan National Team at FIFA World Cup 2026

• 98TASHKENT, June 25. /Dunyo IA/. In a number of foreign cities, events were held in support of the national football team of Uzbekistan, dedicated to the team's participation in their second match at the FIFA World Cup 2026 against the national team of Portugal, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
In the Kazakh city of Aktau, prior to the match, General Consulate of Uzbekistan organized a screening of the documentary film “Uzbek Football: A history of dream, patience and pride” for representatives of the Uzbek diaspora and media outlets, including the “Mangystau TV” television channel; documentary is dedicated to the development of national football, its achievements on the international stage, and the historic qualification of the national team of Uzbekistan for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in history."
In Almaty, General Consulate organized a collective viewing of the match with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, diplomatic corps, as well as UN structures. Prior to the broadcast, the documentary film “Uzbek Football: A history of dream, patience and pride” was demonstrated to the guests. Participants of the event noted the historic achievement of the national team of Uzbekistan and expressed confidence in its high potential and future success on the international stage.
In the city of Osh, Kyrgyzstan, General Consulate organized an evening of friendship dedicated to the collective viewing of the match. The fans actively supported the national team, and the sincere support of the Kyrgyz participants, who chanted the slogan “Uzbekistan is the champion!” along with our compatriots, lent a special atmosphere to the event. The participants emphasized that the qualification of the Uzbekistan national team for the World Cup became a significant event for the entire region and yet another testament to the strengthening of friendship and good-neighborliness between the brotherly peoples.
In Saint Petersburg and other cities of the Northwestern Federal District of Russia, on the initiative of the General Consulate, collective viewings of the match were organized at the venues of educational institutions, enterprises, and catering establishments. The events also covered the cities of Ust-Luga, Petrozavodsk and Kaliningrad. In total, about 850 people took part in them, including compatriots, students and representatives of various states. The participants followed the game of the national team of Uzbekistan with great interest, and the atmosphere of the meetings was filled with a sense of unity, friendship and support for the team.
In Budapest, at the Embassy of Uzbekistan, a collective viewing of the match was held with the participation of compatriots staying in the country. Within the framework of the event, a documentary film on the development of Uzbek football was also screened. In addition, the participants were provided with information on consular services and matters concerning legal support for citizens abroad.
On the initiative of the General Consulate, collective viewing events of the match were organized in the German cities of Frankfurt am Main and Munich, aimed at consolidating the Uzbek diaspora and strengthening ties with compatriots. In Frankfurt am Main, members of the “Humo” society and students from several universities took part in the event, while in Munich, an open-air collective viewing of the match gathered over 200 people. Within the framework of the events, treats of national cuisine were organized, as well as raffles of commemorative souvenirs and merchandise of the national team.
At the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Brussels, an event was held for the collective viewing of the match with the participation of compatriots. During the meeting, the achievements of Uzbekistan in the field of sports, the country's growing international prestige, and the significance of sports diplomacy were noted. A dastarkhan with national dishes was organized for the guests, which created a warm and friendly atmosphere.
In France, on the initiative of the Embassy, a fan zone was organized in one of the cafes in Paris, where a collective viewing of the match united diplomats, students, and compatriots from different regions of the country. The participants actively supported the national team, emphasizing the significance of such events for strengthening ties with the Homeland and promoting a positive image of Uzbekistan abroad.
In London and other cities of the United Kingdom, with the support of the Embassy of Uzbekistan, fan zones were organized, gathering over 500 participants, including representatives of the diplomatic corps, British official and business circles, international organizations, compatriots, and students. Prior to the match, a documentary film on the development of Uzbek football was screened. The events were held in an atmosphere of high interest and active support for the national team, accompanied by discussions on the development of sports and sports diplomacy.
In Israel, Embassy organized a complex of events dedicated to the match of the national team of Uzbekistan, including online broadcasts at six venues in the cities of Tel Aviv, Ramat Gan, Petah Tikva, Holon, and Jerusalem, as well as an interview on the “Kan 11” television channel and a presentation of the documentary film on the history of Uzbek football. The events were held in an atmosphere of unity, patriotism and support for the national team, emphasizing the significance of Uzbekistan's historic qualification for the World Cup and the development of the country's sports diplomacy.
In the capital of Qatar, Doha, on the initiative of the Embassy, compatriots gathered for a collective viewing of the match of the national team of Uzbekistan. The participants actively supported the team making its debut appearance at the World Cup, and noted the importance of such meetings for strengthening ties with the Homeland and consolidating the diaspora.
According to the participants of the events, such meetings not only allow them to follow the performances of the national team, but also contribute to strengthening unity, expanding public ties, and forming a sustainable sense of national pride among compatriots living abroad, as well as strengthening their spiritual bond with the Homeland.
