Regular meeting of friendship groups of Lower Houses of Uzbekistan and Malaysia Parliaments held

KUALA LUMPUR, July 2. /Dunyo IA/.  An online meeting has been held between the interparliamentary friendship groups of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Malaysia, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

At the outset of the meeting, the Malaysian side was presented with detailed information on the large-scale reforms implemented under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the outcomes achieved, the structure of the Legislative Chamber, and its activities within the realm of lawmaking.

As Kelvin Yii Lee, Chairman of the “Malaysia–Uzbekistan” Interparliamentary Friendship Group, noted, the official visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim, to Uzbekistan on May 17-19, 2024, as well as the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to Malaysia on February 4–5, 2025, laid a solid foundation for elevating bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level.

During the talks, sides discussed the current state and prospects of Uzbek–Malaysian relations, issues of deepening interparliamentary interaction, as well as expanding cooperation in the trade, economic and investment fields, the realm of information technologies and artificial intelligence, science and education, culture, humanitarian ties and tourism.

It was emphasized that relations between Uzbekistan and Malaysia are developing consistently thanks to the political will and determination of the leaders of the two states.

Participants of the meeting paid particular attention to the issues of strengthening parliamentary oversight over the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level, activating the performance of cooperation groups, exchanging experience in the field of lawmaking and continuing a regular interparliamentary dialogue.

Furthermore, taking into account the existing potential, the sides discussed the development of cooperation in the fields of science and education, the implementation of joint scientific projects along modern avenues of research, the optimization of research in the sphere of green and renewable energy in accordance with modern requirements, as well as enhancing the role of parliaments in the further advancement of pilgrimage tourism.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on the future activities of the Interparliamentary Friendship Group and plans for practical cooperation.
