United States and Uzbekistan announce Early Trade Outcomes and Accelerate Negotiations on a Mutual Trade and Investment Agreement

TASHKENT, June 26. /Dunyo IA/. Yesterday, Tashkent hosted Uzbekistan – U.S. negotiations led by the Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev, and the United States Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan (MIIT), parties agreed on an early package of trade commitments aimed at strengthening bilateral economic and investment relations, as well as ensuring reciprocity, balance and sustainability in bilateral trade. Both nations also agreed to accelerate negotiations to ensure the prompt conclusion of a Mutual Trade and Investment Agreement.

These arrangements build upon the meetings held between President Donald J. Trump and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in 2025, reaffirming the long-term commitment of both countries to enhancing their strategic and economic partnership.

The early package of trade and investment agreements includes several key commitments:

·      Specifically, Uzbekistan commits to eliminating or reducing tariffs on a broad range of U.S. industrial and agricultural products. In return, the United States commits to providing favourable tariff measures for Uzbekistan's industrial and agricultural products, as considered under U.S. legislation.

·     Furthermore, the United States and Uzbekistan have agreed to strengthen investment cooperation and explore potential avenues for promoting and facilitating bilateral investments.

·     Additionally, both nations will accelerate negotiations toward the conclusion of the Mutual Trade and Investment Agreement.

These agreements reflect further significant progress in bilateral trade relations following the announcement by President Trump and President Mirziyoyev last year regarding bilateral commercial deals totalling USD 32 billion. This includes an USD 8.5 billion agreement with Boeing, alongside procurement and investments in strategic sectors such as critical minerals, mining, energy, finance and information technology.

The United States strongly supports Uzbekistan in its process of accession to the World Trade Organization and recognizes the substantial progress the country has achieved to date.

The United States and Uzbekistan will formalize this early package of agreements in the coming weeks.
