Tashkent and Ankara strengthen parliamentary ties

АNKARA, January 13. /Dunyo IA/. Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Ilkhom Haydarov, met with Fuat Oktay, President of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkiye, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

During the talks, it was noted that the deep and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two fraternal countries has achieved significant results across all areas, including inter-parliamentary cooperation.

It was emphasized that two visits by the Chair of the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye to Uzbekistan last year as well as the visit of the Chair of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan to Turkiye, clearly demonstrate the high level of collaboration in this sphere.

The discussions highlighted the steady growth of trade and economic ties between the two countries. It was reported that, by the end of 2025, Turkiye ranked third among foreign investors in Uzbekistan. Particular attention was given to cooperation in the tourism sector: in 2025, approximately 170,000 Turkish tourists visited Uzbekistan, reflecting the growing interest of Turkish citizens in their historical heritage.

Fuat Oktay also noted that within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States, inter-parliamentary dialogue is actively developing, with meetings of the international affairs committees of member-state parliaments playing an important role in strengthening this cooperation.

Following the discussions, both sides agreed to further enhance inter-parliamentary relations in bilateral and multilateral formats as well as to continue regular dialogue and exchanges of views.
