Turkish daily “Sabah” highlights strengthening friendship and cooperation between Türkiye and Uzbekistan

ANKARA, January 29. /Dunyo IA/. One of Türkiye’s most authoritative newspapers, “Sabah”, has published an article dedicated to President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s visit to Ankara to take part in the fourth meeting of the Türkiye - Uzbekistan High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

In his article, Osman Mesten, a member of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye and Chairman of the Türkiye - Uzbekistan Interparliamentary Friendship Group, emphasized the deep historical and cultural ties between the two countries. He recalled that as early as the 10th century, when the ancestors of the Uzbek people left Mawarannahr and settled in Anatolia, bonds between the two nations were forged and have never been broken.

The publication places particular emphasis on the enduring friendship between the two peoples, tested by time. The author noted that Uzbek friends have consistently stood by Türkiye during difficult periods, citing as a vivid example the inauguration of the “Uzbek quarter” in Hatay, built at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev following the devastating earthquake of 6 February 2023.

He also highlighted the importance of economic and investment cooperation, noting that bilateral trade has reached USD 3.1 billion and that Turkish companies are actively contributing to the development of Uzbekistan’s economy. According to Osman Mesten, with the support of the leaders of both countries, many joint projects once considered ambitious are now becoming a reality.

The publication also notes that the visit of the President of Uzbekistan opens a new chapter in the implementation of the “New Uzbekistan” concept. The author highlights progress in education, the active involvement of young people in the country’s development and large-scale reforms aimed at economic growth and improving the well-being of citizens.

The article further draws attention to Uzbekistan’s cultural and spiritual revival. In 2026, the country plans to inaugurate the Center of Islamic Civilization, which will showcase Uzbekistan’s millennia-old history and house one of the world’s oldest copies of the Qur’an - the Uthman Mushaf. Osman Mesten emphasized that this project strengthens international recognition of Uzbekistan’s historical and cultural role and symbolizes the strategic partnership with Türkiye.
