Uzbekistan and Latvia Strengthen Cooperation in Combating Transnational Crime

RIGA, April 29. /Dunyo IA/. A meeting of the intergovernmental commission between the Ministries of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan and Latvia was held in Riga, focusing on cooperation in combating organized crime, terrorism, drug trafficking, and other transnational threats, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The Uzbek delegation was led by Sardor Mirzaraimov, Head of the Criminal Investigation Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, while the Latvian side was represented by Janis Berkmanis, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior Affairs.
During the talks, the sides exchanged views on counterterrorism, anti-extremism efforts, prevention of drug trafficking, human trafficking, illegal migration, as well as financial crimes including money laundering and terrorism financing. Cybercrime, information security, and anti-corruption measures were also discussed.
Both sides emphasized the importance of operational cooperation, digital technologies in crime detection, and regular exchange of analytical information. Agreements were reached on training law enforcement personnel through joint seminars, workshops, and exchange programs.
The delegation of Uzbekistan also visited a penitentiary institution in Olaine, where the sides shared experience on prisoner rehabilitation, education, and social reintegration.
The parties agreed to further expand cooperation through Interpol channels, enhance the search for internationally wanted persons, simplify extradition procedures, and strengthen joint efforts against organized criminal groups.
A protocol summarizing the outcomes of the meeting was signed, outlining priority areas for future cooperation.
