YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, May 26. /Dunyo IA/. In the course of a working mission by personnel from the General Consulate to the Sakhalin Region of Russia, a consular meeting convened at Correctional Institution No. 1 in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk with Uzbek citizens serving prison terms, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

At present, 11 citizens of Uzbekistan, found guilty of offenses under the respective articles of the Penal Code of the Russian Federation are incarcerated at the said correctional facility.

In the course of the facility inspection, personnel from the General Consulate reviewed the residential quarters designated for the inmates, dining facilities and cultural recreation areas, followed by a general assembly with the imprisoned compatriots. The discussion focused on assessing the health status and conditions of confinement of the detainees, among other relevant matters.

The General Consulate officials issued a formal warning to the Uzbek citizens, stating that joining foreign military formations constitutes an offense that entails criminal liability under the Penal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

In addition, during the meeting, the citizens of Uzbekistan stated that they were generally satisfied with the conditions of detention in the correctional institution. However, experiencing a longing for their close relatives, they requested practical assistance in their transfer (extradition) to Uzbekistan to serve the remaining part of their sentences in one of the country's correctional facilities.

Following the meeting, the citizens of Uzbekistan were provided with the address and contact phone numbers of the General Consulate, and it was explained that in case of any problems, they could apply for consular support.
