At the National Center for Human Rights of Uzbekistan, meeting held with delegation from China

TASHKENT, May 13. /Dunyo IA/. Today, a meeting was held at the National Human Rights Centre of Uzbekistan (NHRC) with a delegation led by Li Hongkui, Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Foundation for Human Rights Development, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Delegation arrived in our country to participate in the “China - Central Asia Human Rights Development Forum 2026”, which will take place in Tashkent on May 14th.

Welcoming the high-level Chinese delegation, Director of the NHRC, Academician Akmal Saidov, emphasized that cooperation in the field of human rights between Uzbekistan and China is becoming more significant and stable.

It was noted that the Uzbek side supports the initiative put forward by China at the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council, which was held from February 23 to March 1, 2026. This initiative is aimed at improving global human rights governance and establishing the Group of Friends of Global Governance, which envisions the importance of strengthening a multilateral approach, promoting reforms within the UN human rights system, expanding the representation and role of developing countries and promptly responding to emerging challenges in this field.

During the meeting, the Director of the NHRC also noted that since 2018, the Samarkand Forum on Human Rights has been held biennially at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan. This year, the fifth forum will take place, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of two international covenants—the Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. In this regard, high-ranking Chinese officials were invited to the Fifth Samarkand Forum on Human Rights.

In turn, Li Hongkui, Vice President and Secretary-General of the China Foundation for Human Rights Development, emphasized that since China and Uzbekistan are countries that have chosen their own national development and are steadily following this path, our views on human rights development are also close and similar.

In recent years, with the consistent strengthening of friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation between the leaders of our states, the dialogue between China and Uzbekistan in the field of human rights, along with many other areas, has significantly deepened and is gaining practical importance. From this point of view, “China - Central Asia Human Rights Development Forum 2026”, to be held in Tashkent, will provide an opportunity to continue the dialogue in a regional format, discuss concrete solutions, exchange experience and consolidate the achieved agreements in a final document.

The parties discussed in detail the results of the preparations for this Forum. A number of practical proposals were reviewed and approved, such as the publication of articles based on the presentations of the Forum participants in the National Centre's journals, as well as the publication of the Forum materials as a separate collection.

Following this, the members of the Chinese delegation familiarized themselves with the activities of the House of Human Rights. The guests were highly impressed by the exhibition of books published by the National Centre and literature dedicated to China, as well as a photo exhibition on the cooperation between Uzbekistan and China in the field of human rights in recent years.
