TOKYO, June 8. /Dunyo IA/. The official opening ceremony of the photo exhibition “Photographers of Asia: Central Asia - Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan”, which runs from June 1st to September 29th of this year, took place in the Japanese capital, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

At this prestigious international exhibition, Uzbekistan is represented by more than 40 works by eight renowned photographers. The expositions are displayed across three major art venues in Tokyo – “Sony Imaging Gallery”, “Hanzamon Museum” and “Canon Open Gallery”. The photographs capture the ancient cities of Uzbekistan, architectural monuments, unique natural landscapes and the daily lives of its people.

In his address to the exhibition participants, Ambassador of Uzbekistan Mukhsinkhodja Abdurakhmonov noted that the historic visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Japan in December 2025 elevated friendly relations between the two countries to a new level and provided a powerful impetus to the development of cultural and humanitarian cooperation. Ambassador expressed hope that this photo exhibition would contribute to the further expansion of cultural and humanitarian ties between Uzbekistan and Japan.

The exhibition also showcases archival photographic materials from the three-volume anthology “125 Years of Uzbek Photography”, published in 2004 by the First Deputy Director of the Cultural Heritage Agency of Uzbekistan, Academician Tursunali Kuziev.

Yoshikazu Aoki, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the “Tokyo Month of Photography – 2026” event:

- Photographs from Uzbekistan have successfully participated in the exhibition since 2005. The presented works, especially the images with historical themes, introduce visitors to the country's recent past, its rich and ancient culture, and contribute to a deeper understanding of the Uzbek people.

Kiyoko Kamiya, Producer of the “Tokyo Month of Photography – 2026” event:

It is a great honor for us to present photography from Uzbekistan in Japan. Twenty years ago, “Month of Uzbek Photography” was organized in Tokyo for the first time as part of the international exhibition “Photographs of Asia”. It holds a special symbolic significance that on the eve of celebrating the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence, the artistic and historical heritage of Uzbek photography is once again presented in Tokyo through this project.
