ABU DHABI, June 8. /Dunyo IA/. Ambassador of Uzbekistan Umid Shodiev met with the Minister of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in green technologies, eco-friendly industries, the implementation of circular economy principles, and the execution of sustainable infrastructure projects. They also exchanged information on the work being done under the “Uzbekistan – 2030” Strategy to expand green zones, increase energy efficiency and improve the waste management system.

Particular attention was paid to the development of renewable energy. The Uzbek side shared plans to increase the share of renewable energy sources in the country's energy mix to 54 percent by 2030 and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 16 million tons. In this regard, interest was expressed in expanding cooperation in the fields of solar, wind, and hydrogen energy.

The parties also exchanged views on efficient water resource management. It was noted that water-saving technologies have been implemented across 2 million hectares in Uzbekistan, including drip irrigation systems used on 560,000 hectares. The importance of exchanging experience in water conservation, seawater desalination, wastewater treatment, and the introduction of innovative water management technologies was emphasized.

Furthermore, cooperation in combating desertification and land degradation, ecosystem restoration, and the implementation of afforestation programs was discussed. In particular, it was noted that the ecological situation in the Aral Sea region and natural changes in the Kyzylkum Desert reaffirm the critical importance of integrated land and water resource management.

Following the negotiations, the parties reached agreements on further developing cooperation in environmental protection and climate action, expanding scientific, educational, and expert collaboration, and implementing joint initiatives in ecotourism, renewable energy and sustainable natural resource management. Particular attention was paid to strengthening food security cooperation, expanding agricultural exports and boosting engagement at international forums, including the upcoming UN Water Conference.
