New Ambassador of Belgium officially accredited in Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, January 12. /Dunyo IA/. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov, today received the newly appointed Ambassador of Belgium with residence in Astana, Erik De Maeyer, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
“Received the credentials of H.E. Erik De Maeyer, Ambassador of Belgium to Uzbekistan. - the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan wrote in his telegram-channel. - During the meeting, we covered wide range of topics on bilateral ties. Noted the importance of further facilitating trade, investment, and business cooperation between 🇺🇿 and 🇧🇪, as well as expanding practical economic engagement.
Wish Mr. Ambassador all the success in his diplomatic mission in Uzbekistan”.
It is recalled that Uzbekistan and Belgium established diplomatic relations on March 16, 1992.
The new Belgian ambassador, Erik de Maeyer, is 59 years old. A seasoned diplomat, he has held senior positions since 1993 in Belgium’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its foreign missions and international organizations.
Erik de Maeyer succeeds Henri Vantieghem, who was accredited as Belgium’s ambassador to Tashkent in 2024.
