TASHKENT, January 7. /Dunyo IA/.  A press conference dedicated to the launch of a public discussion on the improved draft of the “Uzbekistan-2030” strategy was held at the Media Content Development Center, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

It was noted at the conference that in his Address to the Oliy Majlis and the people of Uzbekistan on December 26 this year, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that the significant results achieved and new priority tasks necessitate a revision of the “Uzbekistan-2030” strategy. The document defining the country’s development for the next five years should be submitted for broad public discussion and refined taking into account citizens’ opinions.

It was highlighted that in recent years the poverty rate has decreased from 11% to 6.8%, unemployment from 6.8% to 4.9%, GDP has reached 145 billion US dollars, exports have amounted to 33.4 billion US dollars, and foreign investment has reached 43 billion US dollars.

Two years ago, the goal was set to raise GDP to 160 billion US dollars by 2030. It is now expected that this target will be achieved as early as 2026. The Address also noted the potential to expand the country’s economy to over 240 billion US dollars in the next five years. Thus, new and higher benchmarks are being set across all sectors.

Taking into account these changes and achievements, an improved draft of the “Uzbekistan-2030” strategy was prepared. More than 350 representatives of relevant ministries, agencies, and research centers took part in its development, during which all 444 performance indicators of the strategy were reviewed in light of the country’s current conditions.

At the press conference, Executive Director at Development Strategy Center, Eldor Tulyakov emphasized that improving the “Uzbekistan-2030” strategy and updating its objectives is of great importance for the country’s development and the well-being of its people.

“Over recent years, large-scale reforms have yielded tangible results, while at the same time life is presenting new tasks, requirements and challenges. Therefore, there is a need to refine the strategy based on real conditions, societal needs, and rapidly changing global trends. The main goal of the improved “Uzbekistan–2030” strategy is the practical implementation of the principle that “state bodies should serve the people, not the people the state” as well as ensuring more effective, results-oriented and accountable development of the country in the medium term”, - Eldor Tulyakov stressed.
