A football tournament for compatriots held in South Korea to mark a commemorative date

• 52SEOUL, May 12. /Dunyo IA/. In honor of May 9 - Day of Remembrance and Honor - a futsal tournament was organized for Uzbek citizens living in South Korea at the initiative of the Embassy of Uzbekistan, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The competition was held in cooperation with the Association of Uzbeks in Korea and activists from the Korean branch of the World Youth Association of Uzbekistan. Twelve teams competed for victory in the tournament. The event brought together young compatriots studying and working in various cities across South Korea.
Following the competition, the top-performing teams were identified and formally presented with valuable prizes, trophies and certificates of merit provided by partner organizations.
As part of the event, participants and guests were served Uzbek national cuisine, including traditional plov; additionally, a commemorative ceremony was held to honour the memory of ancestors.
The speakers at the ceremony congratulated their compatriots on the Day of Remembrance and Honor. They emphasized that such sporting tournaments play a vital role in strengthening solidarity among Uzbeks living abroad, uniting them around national values, and promoting a healthy lifestyle among the youth.
It was noted that the large-scale efforts undertaken in Uzbekistan to develop grassroots sports, increase physical activity and establish a healthy lifestyle as the norm are consistently continuing with the participation of compatriots abroad. The tournament held in South Korea was recognized as a practical embodiment of these efforts.
