Attitude from Azerbaijan: An Official Visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Belarus reflects broader process of forming a new cooperation architecture in Eurasia

BAKU, July 10. /Dunyo IA/.  Azerbaijani political observer and international relations analyst Murad Sadaddinov commented for Dunyo IA on the outcomes of the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to Belarus on July 8–9:

-  Official visit of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to Belarus stands as one of the most prominent political events in the post-Soviet space. The negotiations focused primarily on the development of trade and economic cooperation, industrial partnerships, investment interaction, transport logistics and humanitarian ties.

However, the significance of this visit extends far beyond the framework of the traditional diplomatic agenda. Amid a rapidly changing international environment, it reflects a broader process of forming a new architecture of cooperation in Eurasia, where states increasingly rely on pragmatism, economic efficiency and the protection of their own national interests.

Visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Belarus holds particular significance precisely for Uzbekistan itself, which is currently undergoing a period of large-scale economic transformation and seeks to expand its circle of strategic partners.

In recent years, Uzbekistan has become one of the fastest-growing economies in the post-Soviet space. The country is conducting active industrial modernization, attracting foreign investment, developing its export potential and consistently integrating into international economic processes. To achieve these objectives, Tashkent requires new technologies, modern production solutions and reliable markets.

In this context, Belarus represents significant interest for Uzbekistan. Despite the complex international situation, Belarus has maintained a powerful industrial complex, including the production of agricultural machinery, trucks, mining dump trucks, elevator equipment, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering products. Many of these areas are in high demand within the framework of Uzbekistan's large-scale economic modernization program.

Today, cooperation between the two countries already extends far beyond ordinary trade. It concerns the creation of joint ventures, the localization of Belarusian machinery production within the territory of Uzbekistan, human resource development, and the exchange of technologies. This is precisely why the current visit can become an important stage in the transition from traditional trade relations to deeper industrial integration.

Particular prospects are opening up in the agricultural sector. Uzbekistan is actively developing agriculture, introducing modern methods of land cultivation and updating its fleet of agricultural machinery. Belarus possesses serious experience and production capabilities in this field, making cooperation mutually beneficial.

Transport and logistics direction is no less important. Uzbekistan, lacking direct access to the sea, is traditionally interested in expanding transport routes and creating new export corridors. Belarus, located at the intersection of the most important trade routes of Eastern Europe, can become an additional link in the system of promoting Uzbek products to European markets.

Serious prospects are also opening up in the field of high technologies. In recent years, Uzbekistan has paid special attention to the digitalization of the economy, the development of the IT sector and the implementation of modern management solutions. Belarus possesses significant experience in the field of software engineering, digital services, and the training of engineering personnel. Expanding cooperation in this area could become one of the most promising directions of bilateral relations in the coming years.

Another important factor is the demographic potential of Uzbekistan. The country's population already exceeds 38 million people and continues to grow. This signifies an expanding domestic market and an increasing demand for infrastructure, transport, construction, and industrial equipment. Belarus gains an opportunity to strengthen its position in one of the most promising markets in Central Asia, while Uzbekistan secures access to the technologies and industrial solutions necessary for further economic growth.

From a political standpoint, the visit is also of great significance. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev consistently pursues a multi-vector foreign policy aimed at strengthening relations with both neighbouring states in Central Asia and partners across the entire Eurasian space. The development of cooperation with Belarus aligns fully with this strategy.

For Tashkent, it is important not only to build up economic interaction but also to demonstrate the ability to conduct an independent and pragmatic foreign policy based on national interests. On the whole, I view the official visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Belarus not only as an important bilateral event but also as another step in the implementation of Uzbekistan's long-term strategy aimed at transforming the country into one of the leading economic and political centers of Eurasia.
