Attitude from Tajikistan: President of Uzbekistan’s visit to Georgia contributes to shaping a new geoeconomic architecture in Eurasia

DUSHANBE, July 4. /Dunyo IA/.  Viktor Kim, Research Fellow at the Institute of Philosophy, Political Science and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, provided a commentary for Dunyo IA regarding the outcomes of the state visit by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to Georgia on July 2–3:

-  State visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to Georgia on July 2–3, 2026, will deservedly enter the annals of history for both nations as a milestone event. In the long term, it has the potential to transform the Uzbekistan - Georgia nexus into a primary economic axis of transcontinental trade, linking the markets of China, South Asia and Europe.

This first and unprecedented highest-level visit by the Head of State of Uzbekistan demonstrates a profound comprehension of the importance and emerging prospects defining mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation. This engagement can be characterized as “architectural”, establishing a new developmental trajectory for decades to come. This milestone was preceded by the official visit of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to Uzbekistan on March 4-5, 2025, which served a 'constructional' purpose by instituting the necessary mechanisms for an accelerated breakthrough [2–3]. This represents a deliberate choice by both parties to accelerate the evolution of their relations, transitioning from a standard “diplomacy of courtesy” and routine 'economic transactions' toward a framework of comprehensive 'strategic geopolitical partnership.

The state visit of Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Georgia cannot be interpreted merely through the prism of bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Georgia. It represents, above all, a far-sighted and decisive strategy by the President of Uzbekistan, aimed at executing a regional vision for the sovereign development of Central Asia, including Uzbekistan. Central Asia will cease to be a 'landlocked bottleneck' region. This strategic nexus between Uzbekistan and Georgia will open vital Black Sea ports for Central Asian states, positioning them as comprehensive participants in global maritime trade.

Georgia serves as a vital maritime gateway to Europe for Uzbekistan and the broader Central Asian region, providing both geopolitical and economic access to the World Ocean. It constitutes a critical link within the Middle Corridor infrastructure. Today, this route offers a secure passage and an operational framework fully integrated into the global network of insurance and banking settlements, anchoring Georgia firmly within the European logistical space.

During the summit, Head of State of Uzbekistan presented a pragmatic portfolio of commercial proposals meticulously designed to meet contemporary economic requirements.

Conferral of Georgia’s highest state decoration, the Order of the Golden Fleece, by the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, upon the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to advancing bilateral ties, underscores the profound mutual trust and a shared commitment to the accelerated development of relations.

This historic state visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Georgia has laid a durable foundation for the formation of a new Eurasian axis linking “Central Asia and the South Caucasus”, which is poised to radically redefine the geoeconomic map of Eurasia over the long term. Fundamentally, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s itinerary to Georgia signifies the construction of an entirely new geoeconomic architecture across the Eurasian space.
