Diplomats of Uzbekistan Visit Penal Colony in Tomsk Region

TOMSK, June 21. /Dunyo IA/. Representatives of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Novosibirsk visited Correctional Colony No. 3 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Tomsk Region, where around 70 citizens of Uzbekistan are currently serving sentences, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

During a collective meeting with more than 50 convicted compatriots, their requests and appeals were heard, information regarding the nature of committed offenses was recorded, and answers were provided to their questions.

Citizens were informed about the liability provided under Uzbek legislation for participation in military actions, as well as the need to promptly inform the Consulate General in case of violations of their rights and legitimate interests. It was also stated that there is currently no mechanism for the transfer (extradition) of convicted persons from Russia to Uzbekistan.

During the visit, the issue of medical assistance for one citizen suffering from asthma was resolved. In addition, two applications for the issuance of new passports due to expired documents were accepted.

The location of one Uzbek citizen, previously held in the institution and who had lost contact with relatives after release in May of the current year, was also established.

The Consulate General continues its work to provide consular and legal assistance to citizens of Uzbekistan in the Siberian Federal District of Russia, including those held in detention and correctional facilities.
