Dushanbe hosts launch of Uzbekistan’s updated long-term 2030 development strategy

DUSHANBE, February 16. /Dunyo IA/. A briefing on the implementation and updating of the “Uzbekistan - 2030” Strategy was held at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Tajikistan, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The briefing was attended by Uzbek nationals, members of the expert community and representatives of civil society organisations. It was led by Ergash Shaismatov, who presented a report on the updated “Uzbekistan - 2030” Strategy.

The strategy, adopted on 11 September 2023, sets long-term development priorities for Uzbekistan, covering economic growth, modernization of the social sector, the creation of a sustainable ecological environment and the strengthening of statehood, sovereignty and national security.

Officials emphasized that the core focus of the reforms is to improve citizens’ well-being and strengthen public trust in the state. Implementation of the strategy will be guided by measurable indicators, clearly defined responsible agencies and designated sources of financing. In light of new global and domestic challenges, the document has been updated for the 2026–2030 period and submitted for nationwide public discussion.

The updated strategy outlines ambitious targets to be achieved by 2030: increasing GDP to USD 240 billion, maintaining inflation within 5–6%, enhancing investment attractiveness, developing industry and the service sector, advancing the “green” economy and digital transformation and eradicating absolute poverty.

Within the social sphere, the updated “Uzbekistan – 2030” Strategy sets targets to expand access to education, increase life expectancy to 78 years, reduce mortality from major diseases, and provide support for motherhood and vulnerable population groups. Programs are also being implemented in areas such as environmental protection, water conservation, development of “green” energy and strengthening the rule of law.

The briefing concluded with a focus on historical and cultural heritage, highlighting the birthday of Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur and the 585th anniversary of Alisher Navoi. Attendees were informed about the recent presentation of a book by Urvatullo Toirov at Tajik National University, as well as cultural events held on 11–12 February in Bokhtar and Khujand, which involved the local Uzbek diaspora. These initiatives were noted as important for strengthening friendly ties between peoples.

Speakers at the briefing included Abdulla Omon, Deputy Chairman of the Union of Writers of Tajikistan; Guzel Maitdinova, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Foreign Regional Studies and Foreign Policy at the Russian-Tajik (Slavic) University, Director of the Center for Geopolitical Studies at RTSU and Corresponding Member of the Tajik Academy of Architecture and Construction; Rakhmon Ulmasov, Doctor of Economics and Professor at the Russian-Tajik University; Abdugani Mamadazimov, Director of the National Association of Political Scientists of Tajikistan; and Viktor Kim, Research Fellow at the Institute of Philosophy, Political Science and Law of the Tajik Academy of Sciences, among others.

In addition, 100 books by Uzbek literary classics, including works by Alisher Navoi, were distributed to participants, further emphasizing the promotion of Uzbek cultural heritage abroad.
