Uzbekistan reports decrease in citizens pursuing education overseas

ТASHKENT, February 16. /Dunyo IA/.  In 2025, a total of 28,954 citizens of Uzbekistan went abroad for educational purposes, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to the National Statistics Committee, compared to 2024, the number of Uzbek citizens going abroad for studies decreased by nearly 6,900 people, or 19.3%.

The top 10 most popular countries for Uzbek students in 2025 were:

Russia – 6,498

Tajikistan – 6,039

Kyrgyzstan – 4,648

South Korea – 3,513

Türkiye – 2,496

China – 1,259

Kazakhstan – 1,097

United Kingdom – 886

Germany – 391

USA – 351

The decline in the number of students going abroad reflects a growing interest in domestic educational opportunities and a more selective choice of international destinations.
