ISLAMABAD, March 30. /Dunyo IA/. Popular Pakistani electronic publications “The World News”, “The Gulf Observer” and “Infora News” have published an article titled “Navruz: A symbol of national tradition and new life”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Publications note that Navruz is one of the oldest holidays in human history. It symbolizes the awakening of nature, the beginning of the new year and the ideas of social harmony. This holiday holds a significant place in the cultures of Central Asia, Iran, the Caucasus, the Middle East and South Asia, reflecting the continuity of centuries-old civilizational traditions.
It is emphasized that, according to historical sources, tradition of Navruz dates back at least three thousand years. Detailed information on this is provided in Abu Rayhan Biruni’s work, “Remaining signs of past generations” (The Chronology of Ancient Nations).
Navruz is associated with the calendar systems of ancient Iranian and Turkic peoples and is celebrated during the vernal equinox. Its origin is directly linked to astronomical phenomena: at the moment of the equinox, the Sun, moving along the ecliptic, enters the constellation of Aries and day becomes equal to night. Ancient peoples perceived this natural occurrence as the beginning of the new year. Therefore, since antiquity, Navruz has been considered a symbol of the awakening of nature, fertility and the renewal of life.
As Pakistani media write, the holiday is celebrated in various forms in countries such as Uzbekistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye, India and Pakistan. Its unifying idea lies in harmony with nature, strengthening friendship between people and social cohesion.
“The international significance of Navruz has received special recognition. In 2009, UNESCO included it in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Later, UN General Assembly proclaimed March 21 as the International Day of Navruz, highlighting the holiday's role in strengthening cultural ties and mutual respect among nations”, - publications states.
