ТASHKENT, January 27. /Dunyo IA/. Sodik Safoev, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, held a video conference meeting yesterday with Ziad Aboultaif, Chair of the “Canada –Uzbekistan” Friendship Group in the Canadian House of Commons, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to the Senate of Uzbekistan, the virtual meeting highlighted the strong mutual interest of both sides in the consistent development and reinforcement of inter-parliamentary cooperation between Uzbekistan and Canada.

The outcomes of the Oliy Majlis delegation’s visit to Canada on 26-27 November, 2025 and the successful “Uzbekistan Day” held at the Canadian Parliament were highly appreciated.

Officials discussed plans for the first “Uzbekistan – Canada” Inter-Parliamentary Forum, scheduled to take place in Samarkand in 2026. In the context of the Canadian delegation’s visit to Uzbekistan, discussions will also cover trade and investment cooperation, including sectors such as strategic minerals, agriculture, clean energy, education and innovation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides confirmed their readiness to further deepen cooperation to advance the inter-parliamentary dialogue and strengthen bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Canada.
