GENEVA, December 16. /Dunyo IA/. A delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Akmal Saidov, Director of the National Center for Human Rights (NCHR), is participating from December 15–17 in the second meeting of high-ranking officials - the Progress Review of the 2025 Global Refugee Forum, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
According to the NCHR, the meeting is being held as part of a session organized by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in cooperation with Switzerland.
The event aims to review the implementation of the objectives of the Global Compact on Refugees, assess states’ fulfillment of commitments made at the 2019 and 2023 Global Refugee Forums, and strengthen international solidarity and mechanisms for equitable responsibility-sharing.
During the event, the Uzbekistan delegation will present national experience and achievements in protecting the rights of displaced persons and stateless individuals. Uzbekistan is consistently strengthening its national legal framework in accordance with international standards, including enshrining guarantees of rights and freedoms for foreign citizens and stateless persons in the Constitution in a new edition.
As part of the global #IBelong campaign, New Uzbekistan has made significant progress in reducing statelessness - more than 85,000 people have been granted citizenship. Today, the country demonstrates one of the most sustainable results in the Central Asian region in preventing and eliminating statelessness.
In the context of the humanitarian crisis in neighboring Afghanistan, Uzbekistan supported the deployment of UNHCR's regional humanitarian logistics hub in the city of Termez, facilitating the rapid delivery of essential aid items to Afghanistan and beyond.
The Forum plans to discuss issues of expanding support for refugees and host countries, analyzing the fulfillment of previously made commitments, as well as exchanging information on measures taken by Uzbekistan and other states to protect vulnerable categories of the population. Special attention will be paid to developing partnerships and exchanging best practices in the context of international cooperation.
Uzbekistan's participation in the Global Forum confirms the country's commitment to fulfilling its international obligations and its desire to contribute to the development of sustainable solutions for protecting the rights of forcibly displaced persons.
