SYDNEY, December 15. /Dunyo IA/. Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese has called for tougher gun laws following an attack on members of the Jewish community at Bondi pavilion beach in Sydney, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing “ABC News”.
Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese announced that he will propose gun law reforms for discussion at a meeting of the National Cabinet on December 15. The proposed measures include limiting the number of firearms an individual can own and introducing periodic license reviews. Prime Minister emphasized that people can become radicalized over time. Licenses should not be indefinite.
The shooting on Bondi Beach, Sydney, targeted participants at an event marking the beginning of Hanukkah, resulting in at least 15 deaths and 42 injuries, many of whom were treated in hospitals.
New South Wales Premier Chris Minns described the Bondi Beach shooting in Sydney as a terrorist act, stating that it was deliberately aimed at the city’s Jewish community on the first night of Hanukkah.
Authorities reported that one of the shooters, a 50‑year‑old man, was fatally shot by police at the scene, while the second shooter, his 24‑year‑old son, was critically injured and remains hospitalized under police guard.
A 43‑year‑old man identified by local media as Ahmed al Ahmed tackled and disarmed one of the shooters during the Bondi Beach attack in Sydney, saving lives and disrupting the assault. He was shot during the incident and is currently hospitalized. His courageous actions have been widely praised by Australian leaders and international figures.
Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu publicly criticized the Australian government following the Bondi Beach terror attack, asserting that Canberra’s policies had failed to effectively counter rising antisemitism. Netanyahu stated that he had warned his Australian counterpart that about the growing threat, sharply condemning Australia’s recognition of Palestine earlier in September.
