An international forum on countering transnational drug threats is held in Samarkand

VIENNA, February 13. /Dunyo IA/. In April this year, an International Forum on “Countering transnational drug threats to public health and safety” will be held in Samarkand, organized jointly with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

In his speeches at various forums, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has repeatedly emphasized that the spread of drugs and drug-related crime poses a serious threat to public health, the nation’s gene pool and the future of youth, requiring consolidated and coordinated efforts at the national, regional and international levels.

The forum’s organization in partnership with the UNODC reflects the agency’s leading coordinating role within the UN system in combating the global drug problem, as well as its recognized expertise and analytical capacity in public health, security and sustainable development.

The event will bring together representatives from government bodies, international and regional organizations and the expert and academic communities, serving as a platform to discuss current challenges and develop practical approaches to countering transnational drug threats.

Samarkand forum is intended to become a high-level international platform for exchanging views and formulating actionable recommendations on addressing transnational drug threats, with participation from states, international and regional organizations and experts from academia.
