Parliamentary delegation of Uzbekistan holds talks with Minister of Industry, Commerce and Investment of Punjab region in Lahore

LAHORE, October 2. /Dunyo IA/. A parliamentary delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Nuriddin Ismoilov, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, held a meeting in Lahore with Shafay Hussain, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Investment of Punjab Province, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

During the discussion, key issues were addressed concerning industrial cooperation, collaboration within free economic zones, and the implementation of joint investment projects in various promising sectors. The parties also explored avenues to expand trade and economic relations between the regions of both countries.
At the outset of the meeting, Minister Shafay Hussain fondly recalled his visit to Uzbekistan seven years ago.
During the discussions, the Minister delivered a presentation on the free economic zones established in Punjab Province, outlining their operations and the favorable conditions created to support their development.
Information was provided on Sialkot city’s expertise in the production of sports equipment and uniforms, as well as the promising opportunities for cooperation with Uzbekistan in this sector.
Shafay Hussain also highlighted Punjab’s achievements in the manufacturing of surgical instruments, emphasizing the importance of partnership with Uzbekistan in this sector. He expressed interest in initially exporting these products to Uzbekistan, followed by the implementation of joint industrial projects and collaborative efforts to supply finished goods to third countries.
During the meeting, attention was also drawn to the dairy production capacity of Punjab Province. It was emphasized that the region produces over 50 million tons of milk annually, with its products fully meeting international standards. The importance of establishing export-import relations between Punjab and Uzbekistan in this sector was underscored as a key area of mutual economic cooperation.
Minister emphasized the necessity of commencing practical work on investment projects without delay and announced that his Ministry will appoint officials responsible for cooperation with Uzbekistan. He also expressed the intention to visit Uzbekistan in November this year with a high-profile business delegation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Shafay Hussain expressed gratitude to the Uzbek parliamentary delegation for their visit and underscored his readiness to fully utilize existing opportunities to elevate industrial cooperation and trade-economic partnership to a new level.
