YIWU, August 30. /Dunyo IA/. Within the framework of a working visit of diplomats from the General Consulate of Uzbekistan in Shanghai to the city of Yiwu, Zhejiang Province, a series of meetings was held with the city leadership and representatives of major Chinese companies, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

During the meeting with the leadership of the city of Yiwu, matters regarding the development of trade, economic, investment and humanitarian cooperation with Uzbekistan were discussed.

Deputy Mayor Tang Tang noted the active development of relations between Yiwu and Uzbekistan. In October 2025, a trade and investment forum was held in Yiwu with the participation of representatives from the Sirdaryo Region. Furthermore, memorandums were signed on establishing friendly and sister-city relations with the cities of Andijan, Samarkand, and Nurafshon.

It was noted that the launch of a new logistics route via the Irkeshtam dry port has reduced cargo delivery times to Uzbekistan to 7–8 days. The establishment of the Tashkent–Hangzhou air route and the introduction of a visa-free regime have contributed to an increase in the number of Uzbek entrepreneurs visiting Yiwu. According to data from the Chinese side, their number reached 10,000 in the first half of this year.

Following the meeting, agreements were reached on organizing a visit to Uzbekistan by a delegation of major manufacturing companies from Yiwu and a business mission of women entrepreneurs, opening a national pavilion of Uzbekistan in Yiwu, arranging a trip to Uzbekistan for city media representatives and popular bloggers, as well as the participation of representatives from Uzbek cities in the International Sister Cities Conference scheduled for November 15th of this year in Yiwu.

During negotiations with the executives of leading companies, agreements were made to achieve specific goals and implement joint projects in various sectors of the economy.

Within the framework of the visit to Yiwu, an opening ceremony was held for the “Tashkent” Uzbek national restaurant, established by fellow compatriot Davronbek Buvajonov in the Futian district.

Furthermore, a football tournament for the Consulate General Cup, timed to coincide with the 35th Anniversary of the State Independence of Uzbekistan, was held in Yiwu with the participation of compatriots residing in Yiwu and neighbouring cities, as well as citizens of CIS countries working in China.

During the meetings with compatriots, matters regarding state support for citizens of Uzbekistan temporarily working abroad, the protection of their rights and interests, compliance with the legislation of the host country, visa and migration requirements, as well as timely registration for temporary consular accounting, were discussed.
