Cooperation to be established between Bukhara and the Italian city of Siena

ROME, September 20. /Dunyo IA/.   Ambassador of Uzbekistan Abat Fayzullaev held a meeting with Nicoletta Fabio, Mayor of Siena, one of Italy’s oldest cities, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

During the meeting, the prospects for establishing sister-city relations between Siena and Bukhara were discussed.

Mayor noted that this cooperation would establish a foundation for the future development of long-term friendly relations in economic, cultural, and other spheres of mutual interest.

Elaborating on the city's background, Nicoletta Fabio noted that in the 13th and 14th centuries, Siena was a powerful independent territorial entity. Today, the city is renowned as a tourism and cultural center, particularly famed for its Piazza del Campo and the traditional Palio di Siena horse race. The historical center of the city is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

According to the Mayor, the economy of Siena is primarily driven by tourism, agriculture - specifically winemaking - as well as education, represented notably by the University of Siena.

During the meeting, the Mayor of Siena expressed a keen interest in visiting Uzbekistan and announced intentions to organize a visit of the city administration to Uzbekistan in the coming months.

Within the framework of the upcoming visit, it is planned to discuss with the leadership of local government authorities the signing of a corresponding draft document on establishing cooperation between Siena and Bukhara.

An agreement was reached to continue the relevant work toward establishing sister-city relations between the two cities.
