PARIS, August 27. /Dunyo IA/. Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to UNESCO Kamol Mukhtarov, has met with the Chairperson of the UNESCO Executive Board and Permanent Representative of Qatar to UNESCO, Ambassador Nasser bin Hamad Al Hinzab, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the further promotion of the initiatives of the President of Uzbekistan, which were put forward during the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference held in Samarkand in November 2025.

In particular, meeting addressed the preparation and adoption of a draft Executive Board decision titled “On Strengthening Measures for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage in the Context of Globalization and Climate Change”, which includes organizing an international symposium in Khiva in 2027. Additionally, the sides reviewed plans for a presentation of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan to be held at UNESCO Headquarters during the Executive Board’s October session.

Chairperson of the Executive Board highlighted Uzbekistan's active engagement with UNESCO and noted the constructive nature of the initiatives aimed at promoting the nation's cultural, scientific and spiritual heritage on the international stage.

During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on the draft decision of the UNESCO Executive Board titled “On Strengthening Measures for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage in the Context of Globalization and Climate Change,” prepared at the initiative of Uzbekistan.

Chairperson of the Executive Board noted the relevance of the topic raised and underscored the importance of its further substantive development, taking into account the mandate of UNESCO and the interests of the member states. It was emphasized that the preservation of cultural heritage amid contemporary global challenges is gaining increasing significance for the international community.

Particular attention was paid to the fact that Uzbekistan's initiative is aimed at drawing attention to the impact of globalization, climate change, urbanization and growing tourism flows on the preservation of cultural heritage, traditional forms of its use and management, as well as the sustainability of local communities.

As a practical continuation of this initiative, the hosting of an international symposium on the preservation of cultural heritage in the context of globalization and climate change in Khiva in 2027 is being considered, which will provide a platform for expert discussion on current challenges in the field of cultural heritage.

Following the discussion of events, the sides also exchanged views on the preparations for the presentation of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan.

According to the Chairperson of the Executive Board, this presentation could serve as an important opportunity to familiarize the Organization's member states, representatives of the Secretariat, the expert community and the international audience with the work being carried out in Uzbekistan on the preservation, study, and popularization of Islamic civilizational heritage.

The sides expressed their readiness to continue operational cooperation to promote Uzbekistan's initiatives within UNESCO, including the preparation of events scheduled for the October session of the Executive Board, as well as the further development of the draft decision and the international symposium in Khiva.
