President of Uzbekistan signs law on Accession of Uzbekistan to the International Metric Convention

ТASHKENT, December 4. /Dunyo IA/. On 27 November 2025, President of Uzbekistan has formally signed the law titled “On the Accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the International Metric Convention” marking a significant step in aligning the country’s measurement standards with globally recognized norms, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
With the adoption of this legislative act, Uzbekistan lays the groundwork to become a full-fledged member of the world’s most prestigious metrological agreement - International Metric Convention, originally concluded in 1875.
Uzbekistan’s accession to the Convention marks a significant step toward obtaining full membership in the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM). It will align the country’s measurement standards with international norms, reduce technical barriers in the process of joining the World Trade Organization (WTO), and enhance the national quality infrastructure in accordance with modern global requirements.
This will provide us with the following opportunities:
·Full participation of Uzbekistan in the activities of the International Committee Consultative Committees (CCs of the CIPM) and BIPM laboratories;
·Professional development and advanced training opportunities for national specialists through internships at BIPM;
·Reduction of technical barriers in international trade;
·Enhanced competitiveness of domestic products in the global market;
·Strengthening trust among investors and international organizations;
·Expansion of export potential and the utilization of measurement results verified at the international level;
·Improvement of Uzbekistan’s standings in international rankings and indices;
·Participation in all BIPM sessions with voting rights, including the ability to nominate candidates for BIPM elections.
This legislation will serve to advance accurate and reliable measurement practices in Uzbekistan in line with international standards, ensure sustainable growth in the field of metrology, and enhance the country’s prestige within the global community.
