TASHKENT, November 20. /IA "Dunyo"/. A provision has been introduced into the Civil Code of Uzbekistan stating that geographical indications are also considered objects of intellectual property, reports a correspondent of the Dunyo news agency with reference to the portal "norma.uz".

This measure is provided for in the law "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan" signed by the head of state.

In addition, in accordance with the amendments made to the Criminal Code, for the production, storage, transportation for marketing purposes or sale of goods, performance of work or provision of services that do not meet the requirements for the safety of life or health of consumers, a penalty in the form of restriction of freedom from 1 to 3 years or imprisonment for up to 3 years (previously - only a fine, mandatory community service and correctional labor).

Along with this, actions that resulted in human casualties and other grave consequences are punishable by imprisonment from 7 to 12 years (previously from 7 to 10 years).

According to the document, illegal production of ethyl alcohol, alcohol and tobacco products is punishable by a fine or correctional labor for up to 3 years, or restriction of freedom from 3 to 5 years, or imprisonment for up to 5 years.

It also establishes liability for violating the rules of restrictive measures (quarantine) when identifying foci of infectious animal diseases and concealing them from veterinary state supervision authorities, failing to report information about a simultaneous mass disease or sudden death of animals.

The amount of fines for the illegal use of someone else's trademark, service mark, geographical indication, appellation of origin of goods or confusingly similar designations for homogeneous goods (services) or the illegal use of someone else's brand name will be increased.

A license or permitting document is canceled if damage has been caused to the interests of society and the state, or a threat to peace and security has been created.
