Pakistan and Uzbekistan plan to shift from drug supplies to localized pharmaceutical production

ISLAMABAD, April 19. /Dunyo IA/. Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, held talks via videoconference with Shahab Kohar, Executive Director of a leading Pakistani pharmaceutical company, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
During the dialogue, special attention was paid to the growing demand for high-quality and affordable medicines in Uzbekistan, which opens up broad opportunities for international business.
The Pakistani side was briefed in detail on the current reforms aimed at modernizing the pharmaceutical industry, as well as the conditions created in the republic for foreign investors. In particular, government support mechanisms, tax and customs preferences and the advantages of operating within specialized free economic zones were reviewed.
Executive Director of the Pakistani company confirmed a high level of interest in entering the Uzbekistan market and expanding its presence in the Central Asian region. He noted that the company, which already operates in more than 20 countries worldwide, focuses on the production of generics and the development of the ophthalmology sector. The head of the company emphasized that the stability of the investment climate in the republic is a key factor for long-term planning.
The company's strategy for entering the Uzbekistan market involves a phased approach. At the initial stage, it is planned to establish the supply and registration of finished medicinal products. Subsequently, the company intends to study in detail the possibilities for localizing production and creating joint manufacturing facilities within the country, which will strengthen bilateral ties.
The meeting participants also touched upon technical aspects of cooperation, including quality control, product certification processes, and the optimization of transport and logistics routes. To further develop the announced initiatives with the involvement of experts from specialized ministries and agencies of Uzbekistan, the parties agreed to hold a series of additional consultations.
At the conclusion of the talks, it was noted that the implementation of these plans would be an important step in elevating pharmaceutical cooperation between Uzbekistan and Pakistan to a qualitatively new level.
