Uzbekistan and India explore opportunities for enhanced industrial collaboration

MUMBAI, February 9. /Dunyo IA/. As part of the consistent implementation of the Decree of the President of Uzbekistan dated November 3, 2025, which established the “Kungrad Salt Free Zone” industrial zone in Karakalpakstan, our country's Ambassador Sardor Rustambaev held a meeting with Rajesh Kamath, Director for Strategy and Projects at “Tata Chemicals Limited”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Against the backdrop of a rapidly growing bilateral trade, which increased by 37% in 2025 to surpass USD 1.3 billion, the sides discussed practical steps for implementing high-tech projects in the chemical industry.

The Indian side was presented with an investment project for the “Kungrad Salt Free Zone” industrial area. Special emphasis was placed on the preferential conditions and incentives offered to foreign investors in Uzbekistan as well as the outcomes of the country’s comprehensive economic reforms.

Rajesh Kamat expressed keen interest in the new project and engaged in a detailed discussion of the key aspects of production organisation, including the provision of natural gas, clean water, electricity, and railway infrastructure for the zone. All questions from “Tata Chemicals” representatives were addressed comprehensively.

Special attention was also given to logistics and market access. The Uzbek side provided detailed information on extensive opportunities for exporting products not only to the domestic market but also to Central Asia, the CIS, Europe and other regions. The discussion highlighted the existence of special trade regimes with a number of countries as well as Uzbekistan’s status as a GSP+ beneficiary of the European Union, which offers additional advantages for supplying products to the European market.

The Director of Strategy and Projects at “Tata Chemicals Limited” confirmed the company’s serious intentions by expressing readiness to visit Uzbekistan to assess the potential of the “Kungrad Salt Free Zone” on-site and explore opportunities for establishing a modern production facility.

The meeting marked another practical step in strengthening strategic partnership and trade-economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and India, demonstrating mutual interest in the implementation of large-scale industrial projects.

“Tata Chemicals Limited”, part of the globally renowned “Tata Group”, is one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of soda ash and edible salt, recognised for its expertise in sustainable development and high-tech production.
