ТASHKENT, February 13. /Dunyo IA/. A Syrian delegation, headed by Alaa Omar Al-Ali, President of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce, has arrived in Uzbekistan on an official visit, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The delegation includes Mohammad Yaseen Hourieh, Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry of Syria; Jamal Aldin Al Mustafa, Representative of the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Expatriates – Department of Turkish Affairs; Saeed Hazouri, President of the Goldsmiths Association of Syria as well as business leaders representing sectors such as food processing, agriculture, chemical, textile, construction, automotive, jewelry and electrical industries.

The delegation participated in the international exhibitions “UzBuild 2026”, focused on construction and “BuildTech 2026”, dedicated to construction machinery and technology.

During a meeting with Laziz Kudratov, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade, the Syrian side proposed increasing exports of mineral fertilizers from Uzbekistan to Syria, establishing supplies of construction materials, importing Uzbek cotton fiber and introducing Uzbek cotton cultivation techniques. They also suggested setting up textile enterprises in Syria with the participation of Uzbek entrepreneurs.

In response, Minister Kudratov welcomed the Syrian proposals and emphasized the need to develop a legal framework for the operation of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, implement a regime of mutual trade preferences between the two countries, recognize mutual standards - including phytosanitary certificates and strengthen cooperation between the customs authorities of both nations.

Additionally, first Uzbekistan - Syria Business Forum was held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry building. On the Uzbek side, Minister Laziz Kudratov and the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Davron Vakhobov, addressed Syrian entrepreneurs, highlighting Uzbekistan’s investment attractiveness, industrial capacity and export potential.

Alaa Omar Al-Ali, President of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce described the visit as an important step toward elevating economic cooperation between the two countries to a new level.

It was emphasized that relations between Uzbekistan and Syria, rooted in shared historical ties and the legacy of the Great Silk Road, are now developing on the basis of practical partnerships in trade, industry, agriculture and investment.

Syria is viewed as a platform for Uzbek investors to enter Arab markets, while the restoration and modernization of production in the country open new opportunities. Joint projects, technology exchange and direct dialogue between the private sectors are expected to ensure sustainable cooperation between the two countries and across regional markets.

As part of the business forum, B2B meetings were held, resulting in the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Syria, as well as a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Tashkent branch of the Uzbek Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Commerce of the city of Homs.

The Syrian delegation also visited the “Technopark”, “Crafers” and “Imzo” enterprises in Tashkent, familiarizing themselves with exhibits in the fields of electrical engineering, food production and construction materials.
